Urban Mystic returns with his third installment of his ‘Ghetto Revelations’ series as he looks to build on the success he garnered with tracks like his 204 hit single ‘Where Were You?’ Staying true to his gospel roots, this minister’s son delves into different areas of the modern soul singer’s repertoire with his 14-track album. While the celebratory remake ‘Obama: A Change Has Come’ may have lost some of it’s potency as the months have passed since President Obama’s election, there is still plenty to enthrall fans. Delivering sexually charged material, such as ‘Throw It Back,’ Urban Mystic brings to mind a 1990s R Kelly, except with a new twist. However, it is not just about the bedroom as Urban Mystic brings a more traditional soulfulness with, the Phyllisia featuring, ‘Why Can’t We?’ Other guests include Yung Joc and Shaggy, while Beenie Man and Ce’Cile pop up on the strong ‘So Fly.’ Elsewhere a little hip-hop flavor is injected courtesy of P. Chace as Urban Mystic rides a quality sample-led beat for ‘Days Of Our Lives.’ Throughout it is Urban Mystic’s strong vocal performance that ties this collection together as the stylistic changes continue right up until the gospel of ‘If I Ever Needed Someone.’ There is no doubting that Urban Mystic is possessed of a very good voice and his ability to change his focus track-by-track is remarkable. Indeed the only real difficulty comes with tying Urban Mystic down as he switches his style almost tune by tune. However, if you are happy to ride the gamut of styles from sexual to gospel soul then there is no doubt that you will find few more capable of taking you on the journey than Urban Mystic.
